Internships
Divemaster Internship

What should I expect to gain from my internship experience?

You can expect hands-on training with the opportunity to learn every aspect of the operations of the dive center and to learn the ins and outs of a professional Divemaster career at one of the finest resorts in the Caribbean. Hone your diving skills to a pro level, and have fun on the beautiful island of Bonaire as you complete your PADI Divemaster course and internship with Buddy Dive Resort. At the end of your internship, and after successfully completing all the requirements of the course, you will be a fully certified PADI Divemaster.

What will be expected of me?
When you commit to a Divemaster internship you will be working in the scuba industry. Divemaster interns are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and help out in any way they can throughout the internship. In addition to the internship, you will be expected to successfully complete all requirements for the Divemaster course.

What sort of work will I do during my Divemaster internship?
You will work in the retail shop at Buddy Dive Resort; helping customers, stocking shelves and scheduling courses.

You will work on the dock with a Buddy Dive Divemaster; learning about filling tanks, renting out and maintaining scuba dive equipment and keeping the boats, rinse tanks and locker areas clean and safe.

You will work on the boat; helping certified scuba divers prepare for a dive, assisting them on and off the boat, handling minor gear issues and questions, and chatting about all the cool stuff you saw on the dive. Divemaster interns are expected to take the initiative to observe the divers on board, while paying special attention to those who appear nervous or have difficulty with their gear. If necessary you are expected to alert a Divemaster if you observe potentially dangerous situations.

You will work with the Buddy Dive instructors; assisting as they teach courses and get new divers excited about the underwater world.

Open Water Scuba Instructor Internship

Once you’ve completed the IDC and the IE, you’re fully qualified to teach from the DSD course all the way up to the Divemaster course. But you may still be a little insecure of the structure of the courses, the logistics of what equipment is needed for which dives, or the best techniques for controlling a large group of students underwater.

The Instructor Internship lets you “team-teach” with highly experienced instructors who can give you valuable tips and tricks on teaching, organizing your time and keeping your students happy.

Furthermore, the Instructor Internship greatly increases your chances of employment. You will have practical experience of real-life teaching, rather than being an instructor who has simply completed the IE. Watching experienced instructors teach is as valuable as the IDC itself. Our instructors are happy to provide their insight in the most effective teaching methods. By team-teaching with several different instructors through the internship, you will have a large collection of different approaches to adapt to your own teaching style.
